WHAT IS A SLEEVE OFFSET AND WHY DO YOU NEED TO SPECIFY IT?

Each STL design file of a surgical guide contains a hole into which the sleeve is inserted to guide the surgical instrument.

To insert a sleeve into a printed surgical guide, it is important that the diameter of the holes is either the same size as the outer diameter of the sleeve or slightly larger.

With today’s 3D printing technology, the holes are usually printed with a slightly smaller diameter instead of the accurate diameter of the STL file. To correct this, it is necessary to specify a “sleeve offset”.

The offset depends on various factors, such as the type of 3D printer used, calibration and maintenance, and in some cases on the individual printer as well.

Sleeve-Offset

Beispiele – Typische Offsets sind:

Formlabs – Form 2 ~ 80µm
SprintRay – SprintRay Pro95 ~ 200µm
Objet Eden 260V ~ 80µm
DS – Primeprint ~ 80µm
